Looking at the innovation road of optical cable manufacturers from GOC
GOC is the third largest fiber optic cable manufacturer in Korea after LS and TAIHAN. It was founded in 2001 in Gwangju, Gwangju, South Korea. At the Seoul Photonics Exhibition in 2019, the company also exhibited a full range of sensor products in addition to the traditional optical cable products.
At the invitation of OCIC of Korea Light Convergence Industry Association, the optical fiber online editor went to the Seoul Photonics Exhibition to interview GOC. The company's president, In-Chul Park, and sales director Chul Woong Jung, introduced the company's new range of products to the editor.
At this exhibition, GOC is divided into two front and back booths, one exhibiting sensor products and one surrounding fiber optic cable products. GOC's sensor products are concentrated in biomedical products, including oxygen detection, micro spectrometers, blood glucose testing, tooth color detection, etc., and the most intriguing is their FFR detector for measuring blood pressure. (Fractional Flow Reserve, which is used to describe the ratio of the maximum blood flow that can be obtained from the coronary artery to the myocardial region and the maximum blood flow that can be obtained under normal conditions in the same region, usually in the case of a stenotic lesion in the blood vessel. Expressed as a percentage of the normal maximum blood flow value expected to be achievable in the absence of stenosis. Compared with the conventional fiber optic sensors, the detection mechanism of this instrument is realized by the detection semiconductor chip mounted on the end face of the fiber. During the test, the optical fiber is inserted into the blood vessel to carry out, and the detection data is accurate, the detection data is convenient for output, and the detection process is intuitive. President Park said that this is their latest product, and is currently testing and applying for government licenses. Once mass production, the price can be competitive. Given the prevalence of cardiovascular disease, the market prospects for this instrument are limitless. GOC booth staff also said that the photoelectric sensor products are their new series of products. Although this market is still unclear, they are confident that sensor products can become the basis for leading GOC performance to a new level.
In addition to sensor products, GOC is also innovative in terms of traditional fiber optic cable. A fiber optic cable developed by them to prevent hacking attacks can effectively prevent hackers from intercepting fiber-optic communication calls. GOC booth staff told the editor that fiber-optic system piracy is generally based on the leakage effect of fiber bending. And through special coatings, their new fiber optic cable can have better micro-bending performance and effectively combat theft. At the booth, GOC actually demonstrated the outstanding performance of this cable.
GOC has a complete line of optical cables covering a wide range of indoor cable, loose tube cable, opto-electric hybrid cable, armored cable, FTTx cable, optical splitter and series wiring products. GOC now has factories in Korea, Indonesia and Europe, and its overseas business accounts for a considerable proportion. Currently, it has more than 140 employees. Today, fiber optic cable and technology are relatively mature, the transformation path of traditional fiber optic cable manufacturers is worth observing. On the one hand, South Korea's GOC is vigorously exploring overseas markets. On the one hand, relying on technological innovation to seek new development paths, it is worth learning.
