Optical module commercial solution matures, 5G preamble and data center demand increase(1)
Optical modules are widely used in wireless devices and transmission devices to provide pre-transmission, intermediate transmission and back-transmission, and optical network connection interfaces inside the data center. According to the current transmission planning schemes of various operators, the pre-transmission module rate is mainly concentrated at 25 Gb/s, and the intermediate transmission rate is 25 Gb/s, 50 Gb/s, 100 Gb/s, 200 Gb/s, and 400 Gb/s. This year, due to the official issuance of 5G commercial licenses, 5G wireless base stations have been started in advance, and the demand for related optical modules has been supported. With the construction of the transmission network in the future, the demand for optical modules will be further enhanced.
The 5G backhaul covers the access layer, aggregation layer and core layer of the metropolitan area network. If the DU/CU is combined, the intermediate transmission module is not required. The technical requirements for the optical module to be transmitted back are not much different from those of the existing transmission network and the data center. However, due to the increased bandwidth requirements of the transmission network, the flattening of the transmission network and the sinking of the WDM/OTN of the metropolitan area network, the optical The module's rate requirement will be improved. The access layer 25Gb and the core aggregation layer 100G will become the mainstream. The core aggregation of some hotspot areas will even reach the demand of 400G.
The 5G base station AAU and the DU are forward transmissions, and the 25G optical module will become the mainstream choice for the 5G preamble. Since the optical module required for the preamble is strongly associated with the number of AAUs, the requirements for the 25G optical module are also relatively clear. It is assumed that one DU only carries one base station, each base station is connected with three AAUs, and each AAU has a pair of transceiver interfaces. It is expected that the 5G preamble will be transmitted. Bring at least 30 million scale requirements for 25G optical modules. The pace of the scale is roughly in sync with the pace of the operator's 5G wireless mainframe construction. The main determinants of the choice of the operator's pre-transmission scheme include the base station access scheme and the transmission comprehensive cost. The transmission integrated cost includes the cost of the transmission equipment (including the optical module) and the cost of laying and maintaining the optical fiber cable.
